“The design of this carpet derives from works I had originally created in ceramic tile. I wanted to express through the medium of carpet the natural feeling of glaze melting in the kiln. I was also interested in incorporating references to traditional Korean motifs and craftsmanship into my design. The red butterfly pattern is used frequently in Najeon, one the specialized mother-of-pearl craft techniques used in Korean design.”
