Woven Forms 2 – Remains

“My design features the image of a demolished eighteenth-century Louis Delanois armchair rendered in knotted silk and sinking into the surrounding wool. I approached this collaboration as a chance to transform the rug — a traditionally flat and functional object — into a canvas for deconstructing and reinterpreting the piece. The dissected chair, an iconic object central to my practice for many years, is reimagined here as a pelt-like form. The referenced work, currently in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, exemplifies the late Rococo and Neoclassical taste of the period, featuring intricate ornamentation and luxurious materials like gilded walnut and silk brocade. By breaking the ornate, classical form into pieces, I explore the interplay between lavishness with fragmentation and decay, as the chair’s upholstery appears to burst open and merge with the rug beneath.” – Joyce Lin
