Bruno Munari, Flight of Fancy | Amini Showroom
Thinking without preconceived patterns
Amini presents in its showroom an exhibition, curated by David Dolcini, which brings together some of Munari’s works and two new series of carpets that originate from his two works: the book Flight of Fancy and the sculptures Useless Machines. Freeing mind from preconceived patterns has always been at the heart of his method. Following this teaching, Amini has transferred the typical elements of Munari’s art to textile dimension. Born carpets are more than woven surfaces: they are visual tales, daydreams, maps for imaginary journeys inside and outside of ourselves.
In these original works, Munari played with dots, lines, metal plates, and colors—treating them as the moving parts of a machine powered by wit, creativity, and, sometimes, chance—like the wind that brings his Useless Machines to life.
Picking up where Munari left off, Amini translates these same elements into the world of textiles. The 21 dots that spark the Flight of Fancy are reimagined on soft white wool, while two additional rugs expand the story with flowing and straight lines. Meanwhile, the suspended metal shapes of the Useless Machines become vibrant fields of blue, yellow, red, pink, and grey—colors Munari often favored.
This installation is a tribute to the quiet spark of imagination, which this “Munari-inspired walk” aims to keep alive. Alongside the rugs, visitors will find some of Munari’s most iconic pieces: Useless Machines, pages from Flight of Fancy, Travel Sculptures, the Chair for Very Brief Visits, the painting Negative-Positive, and the Face Sculpture series.
The dialogue is open, and the journey has only just begun—a quiet invitation to let imagination lead the way.
