Hand Knotting rug in New Zealand Wool by Manlio Rho
Composizione 1956
Beige

The Composizione 1956 carpet references a drawing by artist Manlio Rho. The vibrant, decisive line is the result of a moment in the artist’s production of critical revision of colour and harmony of forms, towards greater concreteness of expression. In the carpet, which reproduces the original sketch preserved in the Rho archives, the brushstroke becomes a textural and seductive streak, with a contemporary aesthetic.

Designer: Manlio Rho

He began painting in 1918, also dealing with posters and graphic design. Between 1933 and ‘34, abandoning the initial trends of the twentieth century, he approaches abstraction in 1935 and participates with Radice in an exhibition at Milione Gallery in Milan. In 1936 he organizes in Como with Sartoris Radice the exhibition of Modern Italian Painting. He was well aware and sensitive to new artistic trends that came from abroad, such as Weimar, Dessau, and Mondrian with whom he shared the concept of making art through pure relationships of shapes and colors.
